Another milestone

Just back from the Sunday run. For today I had a milestone in mind, which was to run with the longest running group. My schedule today was for 10 miles and the longest group was doing a 12 miler, so I decided to do a 12 miler. I ended doing the 12 miles fastest in the group (of course there was no race, they were all running at an easy pace, but nonetheless :D). I did 12 miles in 1 hr 55 mins (approximately).
At the end I was dead tired, first time till now that I have gotten this tired after a run. Guess (or rather hope) I'll get better over time.

Update for the rest of the week:

Tuesday 26 July - 5 laps (fast) - Univ Park
Friday 29 July - 5 laps - Univ Park
Saturday - track workout at Pleasant Point.
The track workout was great fun, my coach's coach was present, and he did some track drills with us, which were fun. Stuff like skip running, backward running, sideward running, etc. It was followed by 4 easy laps (warmup) with strides. Then I did 4 timed laps with a minute break between each lap. My timing was:
Pravin 4X400- 1:31, 1:35, 1:43, 1:30
So in terms of pacing it was good.

Alright then, until next week, adios....

2 digits mark - a milestone at last

Today I ran 10 miles for the first time. My target was to do it in under 1 1/2 hours, managed to do it just under (around 1 hr 28 mins!)
Feels good to have reached 2 digits, though I need to increase my speed a lot more. Next Sunday again I'll do a 10er, hopefully faster...
This is getting more and more exciting as I'm covering more and more miles. Next when I run 13 miles (half the actual race distance), that I guess will be my next milestone. Looking fwd to it!

Update last week

Tuesday July 19th - 9 laps (Univ Park)
Thursday July 21st - 9 laps (Univ Park)

just back from a 7 mile run. Yday I was supposed to run 2 miles but missed it because of 6flags, but that didnt affect today's run at all. 7 miles felt really easy, and I even sprinted the last half a mile.

update

Thursday 7 July - 8 laps (Univ Park)
Saturday 9 July - 2 miles (McLean VA)

first post

Running is an amazing thing. Its my newfound passion. I've been training for a Marathon I'm going to run this November which is 26.2 miles long. Yes its not a typo, its 26.2 miles alright. Those of you who know me well must be thinking I've gone bonkers. The lazy me .. running 26.2 miles?! Well .. all I can say is, running is a most amazing thing. Something I cannot describe, but its just a lot of fun. I can now understand what Forrest Gump went through when he ran in that movie :)

The path ahead is pretty arduous, theres 5 months of training under a professional coach, which just started 2 weeks back. The training consists of a schedule every week with Sunday being a team run.
This run is part of Asha CNJ team, where each runner raises funds for a minimum of 1300 $s by running in the marathon. So its a huge fund-raiser for Asha. To think that my running is going to help in the basic education of an underprivileged kid in India makes it all the more special.

The below statistic is just for me to keep track of the miles I have run till now:
Thursday 23 June - 4 laps (Univ Park)
Sunday 26 June - 5 miles (Johnsons Park)
Tuesday 28 June - 5 laps (Univ Park)
Thursday 30 June - 5 laps race (with Kane, which I lost!)
Saturday 2 July - trek uphill 1 mile and downhill 1 mile
Sunday 3 July - trek uphill 4.2 miles and downhill 4.2 miles
Tuesday 5 July - 2 miles (Cook-Douglass)
Wednesday 6 July - 6 laps (Univ Park)

I shall update this weekly for myself to keep track.
